A Brief Biography of the Founder: Lynda K 'Barley' Robinson is a Professional Singing & Speech Teacher, an LLAM and ALAM of LAMDA, a four-times Honours Medallist of Speech and Acting with LAMDA, a Full Member of The Association of Teachers of Singing (AOTOS) and The Poetry Society, a Full Member of The British Fantasy Society, a Full Member of The Society for Storytelling and The International StoryTelling Network, Full Member of EQUITY (Concert & Opera Singers/Variety) is Fully CRB-Checked - And - is an Award-Winning, Much-Published and Radio-Broadcast Poet, Verse-Fabulist, published Author, published and widely performed Monologuist, Scriptwriter, Lyricist and Songwriter.
Her Publications to date include:
3 Solo Poetry Collections, 1 Collection of Monologues & Speeches For Performers & Speakers, 3 Poetry Audio Books (CDs) and Poetry ChapBook Collections - and her poetry has been published in more than 23 Poetry Anthologies, to date. Barley's Recitals, Performance, Speech & Singing Details:
Lynda - or 'Barley' as she is known professionally - has been teaching Singing & Speech students - of all ages - for over 28 years - since the early 1980s having completed her studies with LAMDA and having successfully undertaken 'The Mastery' at The Actors Institute, London. Now retired from teaching Singing, she plays Piano, Keyboards, Soprano Saxophone and Melodica, and composes Dark, Surreal and Gothic Songs, and instrumental/Ballet music, on her Baby Grand Piano. She occasionally conducts Public Speaking, Poetry Recitation & Writing, Lyric Writing, Speech and Monologue Writing -and Songwriting Workshops - at Venues to suit - and from her home on the West Sussex/Hampshire border.
Lynda ('Barley') is a Highly-Commended Songwriter/Composer (The WM Composers Award for Song and by the Judges of the BNMF) with 5 Suites of Ballet Music for students (premiered at The EQ Festival of Dance, Ireland) - and over 100 Cabaret,Jazz, Musical Theatre and Light Operetta Songs - published and recorded, to date.
The Poetry Box Opening Hours:
Currently Wednesdays: 9.00am to 1.00pm - 4.30pm to 6.30pm
and Mondays: 9.00am to 1.00pm
- Live Poetry Recitals are performed ad hoc for Visitors during Opening Hours and especially Between 10.30am to 11.00am on Wednesdays.
Invited Poets: Poets are Invited to Recite their own Poetry outdoors in the Garden at The Poetry Box on Wednesdays, by sending a maximum of 6 Poems they wish to recite live, in advance, to The Poetry Box. The Invited Poet's material must be suitable for audiences of all ages and must not contain any material or language whatsoever which is likely to cause offence.

Directions: The hamlet of Nyewood is positioned within the South Downs National Park in West Sussex, on the West Sussex/Hampshire border. It is close to both Rogate and Harting villages. The nearest main road is the A272 lying between Petersfield in Hampshire to Midhurst in West Sussex. Visitors may find it convenient to locate the A272 crossroads at Rogate and to follow the signs (by the Church) into Nyewood approximately 1.5 miles. (Alternatively, using SatNav locate John Jenkins Glass Warehouse and/or Ballards Brewery both in Nyewood.) On approaching the Nyewood village sign there are small white light-industrial units to the left. Ahead approximately 25 yards on the left by a large bush is a tall black post displaying 'The Poetry Box' and 'Ramshackles' sign at the top of a narrow, grassy pathway at the bottom of which is a Workshop and at the rear of the Workshop through the black wrought iron gate is The Poetry Box. PLEASE NOTE: The gate must be kept closed at all times. The Poetry Box Opening Day and Hours are as above.
Groups are requested to call in advance.
Visitors who cannot come on Wednesdays during normal opening hours are welcome to telephone or email to make a 'Visiting Appointment'.
